Treatment for ‘Love & Pain’

Pitch;
Alison is a street dancer and is passionate about what she does but secretly has a crush on Ricardo, Ricardo one day watches Alison dance and instantly falls in love they get together but little do the know how much pain their love will cause.

Treatment
The film starts with an opening sequence of Alison dancing alone in a dance studio at their 6th form, the music is on loud and she thinks no one is around and gives it her all, little does she know that Ricardo is poking his head through the door memorised by her dance moves and cant help himself so he walks in applauding her.

Alison is shocked as she has a huge crush on Ricardo and this is he first time he has ever noticed her, he goes on by saying that she is the most beautiful girl he has seen and he loves the way she moves. They continue to conversate and Alison asks him to come to one of her shows, Ricardo says yes and plans to ask her out after the show.

The girls in school eventually find out about their relationship and are envious, so much so to the point where they start to bully and abuse Alison. Alison blames Ricardo for the pain that she is going thorough and cuts him out of her life without telling him why. One day the bullies take things a step too far and attack Alison to the point where she badly sprains her ankle and is unable to dance. When Ricardo asks Alsion what happened Alison has no chioce but to tell him the truth.Ricardo breaks up with Alison to stop the bullying Alison feels heartbroken as she feels that they should still be together but they cant.

Shortly after this whole ordeal Ricardo starts to date one of the bullies that attacked Alison, when Alison finds out about this she is distrought and ends up writing a suicide note on facebook and shortly after, kills herself.

The opening sequence

The opening sequence starts off with an Ext. shot of the camera panning around Barking Abbey School (Leisure Centre), it then dissolves to a panning of inside the leisure centre, which then transforms into the camera panning across the basketball court; the dance studio then the hallway leading to the classroom. The use of establishing shots sets the scene of the film. (All the establishing shots leading up until the classroom will be in black and white). We then have a medium close up of Alison sitting in the classroom bored looking up at the clock which leads to the close up of the clock. Then music then fades out until you can just hear the clock ticking. We then cutaway to a close up of Alison's feet tapping to the beat of the clock. After a few minutes the bell goes and then the shots are in colour (we chose for this scene to be in colour at this point to emphasise Alison coming alive after being bored in school for so many hours).

We have a long shot focusing on Alison's excitement leaving the classroom, then we have another long shot from a diagonal side view of Alison as she rushes through the corridor and Ricardo with his basketball team on the other side. They both bump into each other, there is a medium shot of Ricardo helping Alison pick up her stuff. Ricardo's friends puts his hand Ricardo's shoulder, hurrying him up and reminding him that they have to be somewhere; Ricardo forgets his ball. Alison sees while she is walking and kicks it, out of frustration that Ricardo did not pay much attention to her. The camera follows the ball which then reveals the title sequence of the film as it rolls.

The bell rings

ALISON jumps out of her chair in excitment and starts running out the door into the corridor.

RICARDO and his friends (2 people) are walking through the corridor talking and making jokes from the opposite direction of Alison.

ALISON and RICARDO bump into each other, ALISON drops her books and RICARDO drops his basketball.

Q5How did you attract/address your audience?

In the opening sequence we decided to focus on the environment and the two main characters. We decided to start of with establishing shots of the leisure centre. This was to show the audience that this building is significant to the film because it is where the two characters meet. Then we placed fades between the different establishing shots, because we found out that this is what most films do when showing establishing shots. We then cut back to the beginning of the leisure centre then we added bell sound. This is used to address to the audience that lessons have began, also when the bell rings the camera cuts away to establishing shots, however this time there are students in the shots because the bell has rang, this shows continuity because students are now seen in the playground walking to their lessons or talking to their friends. The next shot shows our character Ricardo walking to the leisure centre, on the way he is placed around crowds of people, we then pan Ricardo’s movements towards the door to address to the audience that he’s one of the main characters. We then show Ricardo opening the leisure centre door and walking through the leisure centre. At this point the camera again pans because he is walking a long distance, during the panning the camera cuts away to Alison, our second main character we decided that it should cut away so that the shot does not bore the audience, also when the shot cuts, Alison is seen stretching we did this because she is a dancer so it made sense and was obvious to the audiences. The camera constantly cuts between Ricardo and Alison and every time it cuts back to Alison she is performing another stretch or action, this is done to show continuity and to address the audience that she is constantly moving while the camera is on Ricardo. We then cut away to Ricardo as he reaches the top of the stairs and whilst he is walking to the changing room, Alison is also walking to the door which leads out of the dance room. This is done so that the audience is attracted to guess that they meet each other before it happens. The next shot is a point of view shot where the camera pans up from the bottom of Ricardo’s feet to his face; this shot is used to show the audience what Alison is seeing. Then there is a close up of Alison’s face which shows that she is love struck, this shows and indicates to the audience that this perhaps might be a romance film.

The theme chosen which is romance attracts the audience through the title credits and music. We decided to use feminine colours for the title credits to reinforce the target audience which are women; also we decided to use slow paced music that may give a hint to the audience. Finally the characters are a male and a female which is typical of a romance film and when Alison’s facial expression is shown when she sees Ricardo it immediately attracts the audience and they become interested and are eager to want to know the rest of the film. The audience would be able to relate with these themes because most of the audience would have probably experienced most of these before.

Q7 Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

In the Post production of the Preliminary Brief we made three initial decisions which we made these were the shooting schedule, the location and the storyboard. We seem to have problems with all three of these decisions, firstly are storyboard was too basic in the sense that it did not contain any cutaway shots or other shooting techniques. We able to deal with this problem by finding out about filming techniques and then applying it to our story board, initially me and my partner both made our own storyboard and when we got together we added certain parts of both storyboards together. This was key because neither of us had the same things and we were able to make the third draft of the storyboard really technical but simple. The other problem was a location for shooting, there were many classes throughout the school, however most of them needed to be booked or were being used by a teacher. So me and my partner decided to ask the head of art department whether we could use one of the classes which were empty. The classroom we used had too much lighting which came obvious to us after filming was done, also the classroom needed was too crowded with art work and tables, so we had to rearrange the classroom in order for to suit our cast in the film. Finally shooting schedule was another problem we did not have enough time to film the shoot in one day, so we ended up shooting for two days, this also meant that we had to come after school and most of our free periods and lunch breaks to get the film finished. All these problems which I encountered in the Preliminary Brief meant that I was better qualified for the main task. In the main task our storyboard was made to a good standard it contained various shooting techniques such as panning and cutaways, the storyboard also made sense to the genre of film which was romance, the characters also fitted the genre. So it was clear that I had improved since the preliminary filming. The location we used was the leisure centre, this location was fairly quiet and not busy so our filming was hardly interrupted, also before shooting part of the film in the dance studio in the leisure centre we booked the dance studio, this meant that it will be available for us to use and that we did not have to worry if anybody else was going to use it. So the past problems in the preliminary round help us to realize the possible issues I needed to deal with. The only problem again was shooting schedule, there was not enough time and again we had to come back in lunch breaks and after school. The key lessons I have learnt is that choosing a location is important, the location must be appropriate to what your filming and that if locations belong in a building it you must book it out first. Also the problems in the Preliminary film made it easier to spot issues in the main task.
In the production stage of the Preliminary round some of the decisions made included variety of shots, continuity and casts. All three decisions unfortunately we had problems with.
Firstly when shooting we didn't take shots from different angles to see which looked better, instead we followed the shots which were on our storyboard. We were able to combat this the next day we came to finish of the film we used different shots from different angles which gave us some different shots which looked better than our original shots which were on the storyboard. Another problem was our casts, because the filming took more than one day this meant that the next day we came in our cast had to wear the same clothes and the appearance of their hair must be the same as the previous day. Unfortunately the case was that one of our casts forgot to bring in the same clothes because neither of us was aware of this problem. We did not have any way of countering this problem instantly, however the next day we able to complete the film with our cast wearing the same attire. Finally the last problem we had was continuity; certain parts of the shots we made did not make sense in continuity terms. So we had to make sure that the previous shot would run smoothly we the next, we were able to do this by coming back the final day and sorting the problem out. These problems again made it easier on producing the main filming. When we filming the main film we followed the shots of the storyboard but we also used safety shots, this was something that I did not use when filming the preliminary round, also we used a variety of shots such as long shots, medium shots and close ups we also involved different angled shots. The reason why we did so many shots is that so when it comes to editing we would always have an alternative is we did not like one of the other shots. Finally continuity was one of the problems which we faced because we needed shots of students walking past and the next time we came to film students walking by there would be less or more different students walking by, so some of the shots did not have continuity. We were able to combat this problem when it came to editing we were able to cut some shots out so that the continuity made the film look smooth. Finally our cast were not a problem in the main film because we were able to give them props such as bags and shoes, and the main task filming only took one day so they did not have to make sure that they brought the same clothes as the previous day. Overall I learnt that the types of shots and the quantity shots you take will depend on how much work you would have to do when it comes to editing. The more shots you film will mean more sufficient shots you can choose. Throughout the whole process of filming, in the main task I think that I have improved in my overall knowledge also I think that I am able to avoid more problems.
In post production in the main task I was able to incorporate feedback from class mates and teachers, I was able to make the main task shorter and input more effects such as cross fades. I learned in order to improve my film I should take on every single feedback because my class mates are the audiences who would be watching this film. This was not the same as the preliminary task where I only had little amount of feedback from my class mates. I was able to show progression for the main task because the main task included title sequences and soundtracks and this was not available in the preliminary task. So the fact that I was able to do all of this in the main task showed that had learnt a lot. I then put in a sound track in the main task film, we had to research a couple romance films and see what type of music they use, so then we picked a soundtrack that we thought would work best with our film, my group were left with two choices for soundtrack and after getting opinions from class members we decided to go with the music that most people would relate to a teenage romance film. Also I created title credits from also researching title credits in opening films; I learned that the colours and font size which is used all represented the genre of the film. So because the genre of my film was teenage romance this meant that the font should be something that young people could relate to and the colour should be feminine because of the target audience which are usually women. I also researched on more title credits from Saul Bass, during my search I noticed that the title credits he created gave clues about the film and all of them were unique because they were constructed differently.
If I could have done any thing different I would have changed the title sequences. I felt that we could have improved the title sequence and the title of the film itself. Firstly the title of he film is called 'Spot light on Alison' I would have changed this title to 'Spot light on me' because in the opening sequence Both characters Alison and Ricardo are focused on rather than just Alison by herself. This would make more sense because there are two main characters. Secondly the title sequence could have been created to match the title itself. I would have created a stage light at the top, and it would beam a light on to the title credits, therefore implying the spot light effect which the title says. This would give the audience a great clue to what the story is about just like Saul Bass title sequences. The only problem encountered was saving work, this was simply because the software crashed so therefore we had to create parts of the title sequence again.
One of the most important things I have learnt is that feedback improves your filming if you wish to accept your mistakes rather than justify your work. This because the people watching are the audiences who would be critizing your work and trying to understand what it is about. Also research is another important thing to do, if you have a great understanding about filming, then it will reflect on the filming which is created because researching allows you to incorporate some of the things you have found out and alter it slightly to fit your genre.

Q6 What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

Canon XH A1

We used this digital camera to film all the different shots and angles, the reason we needed to use this particular camera was because it had a high definition meaning a good quality of image would be produced by it. When using the camera we had to place it onto a tripod which had to be adjusted to our shoulder height, this was so that we could get still shots without the camera moving around. Also for health and safety reasons when transporting around the camera had to be taken of the tripod. The camera itself was very heavy so it was quite difficult to carry, the camera had to be put onto automatic and had to be adjusted to the correct settings, apart from that it was easy to operate, the camera had a record button which was pressed on to record and pressed on again to stop. This was very simple so recording and operating on the camera was not a huge issue.

Windshield sound system

This was the sound microphone device, we needed to use this to pick up sound such as dialogue when the characters were speaking, it was also used to pick up any unwanted sound which could have interfered with the filming. The windshield system had to be plugged into the camera in order for the camera to record sounds. There are many parts that need to be put together when setting up the equipment so this made it slightly longer and more complicated when setting it up. When taking the sound system outside a hairy Harry had to be placed around it this was to protect the windshield system from bad weather like rain or strong wind. I became aware that it was difficult to move the windshield while it was still connected to the camera. So I learnt that when moving to different locations we had to separate the camera from the windshield. Also we had to wrap up the wires so it doesn’t get tangled up

Adobe premiere

The editing software we used was Adobe Premiere; this software was used so that we could change the film and shots we made. On the editing software we were able to pick which shot we preferred, and then we were able to put them in order so that the story made sense. I have learnt that the editing software also gave a chance to input sound to our film, also we able to create sequences which made the film more professional. But before we could do all of this we had to use a Lacie which was connected to the hard drive, then we connected the camera onto the hard drive.

Zoom.

A zoom was a filming technique which allowed the camera to focus closer for a shot (zoom in) it also allowed the camera to back to its original distance (zoom out). A zoom is used as an effect for shot, I became aware that we didn’t have to use any zoom in my filming because it was not required.

Paning

This was another technique; a pan meant that the camera is moving across horizontally or diagonally. This could be used to show somebody's movements or a landscape etc. In my film lots of different panning was used when filming, this helped me build my knowledge up, there were panning of establishing shots of the leisure centre to show how big the building was and panning shots of characters movements to show where they were walking to.

Point of view,

These are shots which show what the character is looking at, so whatever the camera is focusing on is supposedly what the character is also looking at as well. In my film a POV was used when a character was looking into a mirror at herself, I became aware that if w shot the camera looking into the mirror the recording would show the actual camera so we ended up placing the camera at her face because we could not show the camera while filming.

Shot reverse shot

This is a shot when the camera is placed behind the shoulder of two people who are usually talking to each other. It is used to show who the person is talking to and who is talking. I learnt that because there was no dialogue in my film, shot reverse shot was needed.

Cross fades.

A cross fade is an editing technique which dissolves one shot to another. We used lots of cross fades when it came to editing for example we put cross fades between our establishing shots, so while one establishing shot is being shown, the next one is slowly being introduced, this makes the film run more smoothly rather than jumping from one shot to another which does not show continuity.

Cut away

A cut away is another editing technique. It is used to show something else happening somewhere else at the same time of the shot previous to it. A cut away is when there is a shot going on then you introduce another shot in between, the reason why this is done is because it keeps the reader interested, rather than seeing a shot go on, another shot is brought into the film. However after the cut way we you must go back to the shot before the cut away. Many cut away shots were used in my film, one example was when Ricardo was walking through the leisure centre, and we cut away to Alison stretching in the dance room and vice versa until they actually meet.

Razor tools

A razor tool is an editing technique which allows you to cut parts of shots out. This was used to make shots shorter or cut away unwanted shots or mistakes. We used razor tools in my work because there were many shots that lasted too long, we needed it to be cut short this way the film does not bore the audience and mistakes are not seen in the film.

Digitizing.

Digitizing is when all the filming from the canon camera is recorded and put into shots onto the software. Unfortunately for my group we had missed certain shots out and we had named them either incorrectly or the same as another shot. This meant that we had to rewind the camera and then find out what shots we were missing and then transport it to the software. For the shots that we named the same meant that we had to change it correctly and then add the replaced shots from the camera.

Title credits

Our title credits were created in big fonts, in order to relate it to the film and the target audience which were female we decided to make it pink. When the sequence is being played we decided that the title credits would just fade into the background. We placed all the text of the credits at the top left hand of the screen and the text was also placed in columns with the first letter in Capitals. We thought that this was a more interesting title sequence.

The key lessons which I have learnt is that every single technology is important when filming, I now know that when filming you should have a wide range of shots from different angles so when it comes to editing you can pick the best one. Also I have learnt that both technology and editing equipment are essential because editing allows you to change mistakes in your film by using the razor tool; it also allows you to put in effects which look more professional.

Music Reserach

Enchanted
In Enchanted, the music starts off very magical and fairy talelike however futher on the protagonist starts to sing a song about finding her true loves kiss which sets the romantic element of the film, it also gives the clues of what the narrative may be about.I feel that finding and using a song with lyrics may enhance our sequence and it will help tell the story a little bit more.

The Princess diariesThe opening seqence starts off with establishing shots of the city and city life, however the music accompanying it is very mellow soft and romantic, so it is a contrapuntal sound from the images we see, i think this is a very clever idea because although we can see the city we can here a romanctic soundtrack which helps the audience identify the genre.

When we are then introduced to the charecter the music changes;

It is a song with lyrics with a rock based element; i feel this type of music got used not only to portray the charecters personality but also for the teenage audience to engage with because young teenagers prefer rock and edgy music to classical, and it helps to describe the charecter that we are introduced to so similarly to enchanted the music used gives the audience's clues and a clear understanding of what going on.

Chasing Liberty (trailer)

Chasing Liberty is one of my favourite opening seqences for a romance movie, simply because of the fact it breaks the rules but in an effective way. It starts off with close ups of the charecters eyes then lips putting make up on then to a close up of her face before the camera pans from her feet to her face. This is extremely effective because we our instanstly drawn to this charecter straight away.

Q4 Who would be the audience for your media product?

Target audience of my film:

Age: This would be from around 14-17, this is because the film is about romance and the age that people start dealing with romance start at an early age like 14, I decided that it stops around 17 because any age above that would be too mature and will not have any concerns about the types of theme in the film.

Interests: The target audience for this film should be interested in relationships, they should be interested in some of the themes that the film deals with such as love and bullying and jealousy.

Gender: This films gender is mainly female; this is because most women can relate to the character Alison in the film because she tries to get the attention of the person whom she likes Ricardo. Also the theme love is one which women audience prefer and are interested about and it is one that men do not prefer.

Ethnicity: This is any colour or background of people, because both of are characters are from different race which is black and Asian it shows that love can be shown through any colour so that’s why the ethnicity of the audience can be any.

I chose to target this group because I felt that they will have something to relate to in the film because it shows many themes that the audiences may have been in, also being such a young group they will understand the concepts and the film in general. Also because the target audience are young there will be lots of different aspects which the film could contain such as break ups between relations which the audience would understand well. Also if the audience were slightly older they would find certain themes of the film such as Jealousy as random because it hardly occurs to them.
I think the target audience of my film will be interested in watching films which will have young people involved; I think they would be drawn to other teenage films not necessarily about romance but about comedy and drama as well because they are genres which young audiences tend to prefer. I think in the last six months the target audience of my film are likely to watch films such as '500 days of summer' because it is a romantic comedy about fairly young adults, because it has comedy as a genre I think that it would have been viewed by young audiences and because its also romantic like my film I think it would be watched by my audience. Another film is 'I love you, Beth cooper' this film is about the typical 'geek' and 'princes' of a high school which is closely related to my film, I think the audience of my film would have watched this film because of the type of characters which are the ‘geek’ least important character and the schools most popular girl the ‘princess’ .A final film is 'After school' which is a drama about a young boy being traumatized. I think the audience of my film would have watched this film because it is slightly more dramatic than what would be usually watched.

Q3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Here's the path a film usually takes to be distributed:

An idea for a movie is made, and then outlines our created this means that a storyboard and a script would be made, this promotes interest in the idea and allows the director to see if the idea of the story makes sense. Depending on the company size a studio or an independent investor will then purchase the legal rights to the film and then people would be assigned for the creation of the film such as screen writer, director, producer the cast of characters, and the crews. When the film is completed and edited it is sent of to a studio where a licensed agreement is made with a distribution company, this is where they determine how many prints of the film should be made. Once printed the distribution company would screen the movie to prospective buyers representing the theatres, the buyers will then negotiate with the company about which movies they would contract and the terms of the agreement. The prints are sent to a theatre a few days earlier before the premiere, the theatre then show the film for a number of weeks while people purchase tickets to watch the film. At the end of the weeks shown the theatre send the prints back to the distribution company and payments on behalf of the contract are made.

I consider entertainment film distributors to distribute my film ‘Spot Light on Alison’ because they are interested in British films; also they have a whole variety of genres which they deal with. I think my film would be suitable for them, also I think the theme and genre of my film would attract them because my film ‘Spot Light on Alison’ is about teenage romance and this company have lots of films about romance so my film has a high chance for being distributed for this company.

Another company which I feel will distribute my film are www.cenifiledistributior.co.uk distributors, the company has recently released films about youth and are optimistic about youth films. Because my films genre is teenage romance I think that the company would consider distributing it.

If I were to choose an independent film distributor, I would choose www.onetakepictures.co.uk . This independent film company have received runner up of best directors and actors in international film festivals. However the demands required that we should have a high quality value and a budget.

Youtube.com and Facebook.com are the other methods for distribution; these sites can help promote my film. To distribute my film ‘Spot Light on Alison’ the film must first be uploaded onto the site, once uploaded it can be viewed by millions of people all over the globe giving a wide span of audiences. Youtube means that the audience would not need to pay to view my film so they could watch it over and over, and if the audience like the film they would give it ratings, also the audience can write some notes and feedback for what they thought of the film, this is a good way of promoting my film. On Facebook, videos can be posted on to the site for millions of people to see, just like youtube facebook is also free of charge. Many audiences can send the video to their friends and they too can pass the video on, this will help promote my film and give it a high status

A film festival which I think would screen my film ‘Spot Light on Alison’ is Ivyfilmfestival.com, The film festival is one of the most successful and attended up to date. I think they would be interested in my film because they encourage and admire all types of creative work produced by young students such as myself. Also there would be judges and directors to comment on the film which would be beneficial to us. The screening of the film in this festival will help promote the film as lots of people would attend.

2. How does your opening sequence represent particular social groups?

In our film we have created two key characters Alison and Ricardo.
Ricardo:
The character Ricardo is represented as a confident and popular person, he is very tall in height and this reflects his sport which is basketball, in the opening scene he is scene in tracksuit to suggest that he plays sport, another thing which suggest he plays sport is the duffel bag that he is seen carrying in the scene. Finally his height then matches him to basketball. Ricardo also becomes involved in a relationship with another character. This is similar to the character 'Troy' in 'High school musical' who is also a basketball player, both 'Troy' and 'Ricardo' are in their first year of college and just like 'Ricardo' 'Troy' too becomes involved in a relationship.
Alison:
The second character is Alison, she is represented as an independent girl who likes dancing, this is shown in the opening scene where she is in a dance studio stretching on her own which suggests that she could be practicing her dance routine at her own time periods which suggest that she is very dedicated to dancing. Alison can be compared to 'Gabriella' in High school musical because both characters are independent and usually do things on their own for example 'Gabriella' is seen reading a book on her own during a party in the opening sequence this shows rather than socializing she prefers to do something she enjoys. Also the our character Alison can be compared to 'Nora' in Step up, because she two in the opening sequence of the film is also dancing in a dancing hall showing that both characters have similar representations which are that they both are hard working dancers.
We were representing both of our characters in a specific way because it had to be clear to the audience who the characters where, it had to be clear what they do so that the opening sequence would make sense. Both characters had to portray two different types of worlds, which were a basketball player and a dancer, this also reflected where they met up because both characters saw each other in the leisure centre which is a place for physical activities so it made more sense to the audience when both characters are represented as sport students.
We were limited to the amount of people we could choose from to represent our characters, we were unable to get other students from the school such as friends off their time table and be in our cast. This meant that we could only choose students from the available media group, so this really limited the amount of cast and the type of characters we needed. We decided to choose Jesse who was a tall student who plays basketball this was a good choice because we would not have to change much about him or direct him too much, he was able to represent the role of 'Ricardo' are character well because of his height and school profession. The next person we decided to use as cast was Dhara, Dhara played the character of Alison a dancer. Due to other groups from our class picking casts from the same class as my group we were limited again in the females we could pick.
The only problem we had with the casts were when they was not needed for a couple of shots they would wonder off, so we had to kept on calling them on their mobile phones and trying to get in touch with them. We were expecting the casts to comply with every thing we said, we expected them to listen to what we had to say and follow the directions we gave them, for example my group did many different shots of the cast doing the same things we expected that the cast would not complain with our decisions and give 100% effort in when they were repeatedly acting the same movements.
With the character Ricardo we told our cast Jesse to walk with confidence chest out and head high, this was because his character was someone represented as confident, he was also told to wear tracksuits and bring a duffel bag to show to the audience that the character was someone connected with sports. Jesse also had the height which was needed too, that was not a problem for us. With our other cast Dhara, we brought in for her a pair of ballet shoes and a black top to show that she was a dancer. We also explained to her that when he character meets Ricardo for the first time she has to look love struck, this was because Dharas character was a person who is represented as shy and quiet, so she really has to show her facial expression so the audience can understand what was going on in that particular scene.

1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

The film that me and my group have produced is a film based on the theme of teenage romance, We have related our films to others such as Love and basketball, Step Up and High School Musical. Many of these films are targeted to young adults and teenagers and this was the same target audience that we tried to follow. The types of aspect that this film contains are bullying and love, this is shown in the film as one character goes through bullying because of her emotions over the other character. The main theme in my film is love, this is portrayed in the opening sequence when the two characters see each other for the first time their facial expression shows their feelings and this instantly shows the audience what the theme is.

The film is able to use the conventions of a teenage romance in the opening sequence because both protagonists start of independently on their own and as the scene gradually begins to unfold they meet each other and there is a sense of positive atmosphere when they meet each other so this shows how my opening sequence follows conventions of a film from the genre of romance. Also the sequence is set around a school leisure centre. This is similar to the idea of the film high school musical

were the two protagonist start of not knowing each other and when they meet for the first time there is a good chemistry between them. As you can see our sequence follows a typical love film convention such as 'High school musical'. I don't really think that my opening sequence develops the convention of a romance film, the reason I think this is because there is no real difference on how the characters meet and both characters are students from the school, we could challenge this by making the characters not students from the school, so it doesn't really develop the idea of an opening sequence for this genre. The opening sequence challenges the conventions of a romance film because it is set in a leisure centre where it is not the ideal place for two characters to meet, also the female character is shown in a dance hall, so this tells us that she is a dancer which gives the audience an idea of what type of person she is, this also shows the female character in her environment, this is similar to one of our researched films 'Step up' where both male and female characters are shown dancing in their environments which were the streets for the male character and the dance hall for the female character.

The male protagonist follows the conventions of a romance film because he is seen as some one popular in the film, and in the teenage romance films that I have researched at least one of the characters is seen as someone popular. This then reflects on the other character as a shy person, but in the film, however our second character is not shy but independent so this is how we have developed the convention of this particular female character.
The narrative is about two people who don't know each other and meet for the first time and start to develop feelings. Throughout the story there are many obstacles that try and break the relationship of these two characters such as other antagonists. I think the narrative follows the code of convention because many teenage romance have the same plot of other people trying to ruin relationships, the story we made was also a typical teenage romance because it was about a boy and a girl, many films we researched showed romance between male and female. Another reason why we decided to use a boy and a girl for this film is because it is something which most audience would relate to. Also the setting is inside a school which is a very common place to have a film of this genre, because a school has lots of different types of students and it is a place where people socialize so it was an ideal place to set our story where two people fall in love. So by setting the story in a school we hope that the audience is able to understand and realize the certain things the characters go through. An example of a film which I researched that took place in a school was mean girls. Most of the film researched was based inside the school.

The narrative we created does not really challenge or develop that of a teenage romance film, our narrative shows the boy and the girl eventually together at the end of the story; I found this narrative the same in teenage romance films and some of the films that I have researched as well. We could have challenged the narrative by showing a friendship relationship instead of the obvious partner relationship this may have interest the audience more and left them to wonder how it ends. However our narrative clearly has comparisons with other films such as '10 things I hate about you', in the narrative of this film a character called Joey tries to go out with a character called Bianca, but Bianca realizes his true intentions was to have sex with her, when the plan fails Bianca ends up being with another character called Cameron who really liked her, this can be compared to our film when a group of girls were jealous of Alison because Ricardo was interested in her. Also because the group of girls planned a stunt on Alison to embarrass her and when it failed it left the character Alison to go out with Ricardo who she really liked. Our film can also be compared with 'High school musical' when both characters stopped talking due to other characters jealousy so it is clear that our narrative follows the typical code of this genre.

The characters created follow the typical convention of a teenage romance because the male character Ricardo is popular; this is often the case in these films, by including popular character it usually suggests that the other character is not. We were able to show his popularity in the opening scene when he greets a friend of his as he is walking into the leisure centre. This shows that he is known in the school environment. We found out that popularity plays a large part in a teenage romance because the popular character usually ends up with the not so popular character, but however the popular character is reluctant to know the other character at the beginning. We chose are male character 'Ricardo' to be the popular character because it will then reflect in our story when other female antagonists become jealous of 'Alison' our female character. Ricardo our male character is most likely to be compared with 'Troy’

from 'High school musical' both of these characters are popular and both are also related with sports. The character 'Alison' is shown stretching in her dance studio on her own, this suggests that she is a lonely character, this is the case in most teenage romance that one of the characters is lonely like 'Gabriella' from High school musical, however this also challenges the code of convention because the fact that she has just finished dancing suggests that she is an independent character who is committed to her passion.
In our film, we decided to place a soundtrack over the entire opening sequence, the soundtrack starts off slow through the title scenes and the establishing shots to show a calm and peaceful environment which could suggest that it was a romantic film, we then developed the sound by picking up the pace and making it faster when other non important characters were shown in the playground representing students for the first time. We decide to make the sound faster to reflect the energy of other students walking and running around the playground. The music did not have any words, this is slightly different to soundtracks of this genre because most teenage romance films have music with words we decide not to use words because there was no real action which created momentum in the opening sequence, however Step up had lyrics because in the opening sequence there was dancing and the lyrics reflected with the dancing, however in our opening sequence there was nothing like that so we didn't really follow the conventions of teenage romance music. However because we have the soundtrack covering through the whole opening sequence it meant that there was no dialogue just like Step up.
Our opening sequence focuses on two people who are the main characters showing that the film is about two people and therefore suggesting to the audience that this may be a romantic film. Also Alison the female character finishes stretching and then picks up her stereo and CD, we decided that the CD that she picks up would be about love, so this also reflects the genre. At the beginning of the opening sequence it starts of with establishing shots and pans of the school like High School Musical then the bell rings to show that school has started and the students and characters are shown in the establishing shots. Ricardo our character is seen wearing his costume which is a tracksuit he is also carrying his props which is his bag, this can be compared to Gabriella in High School Musical as she two has books which are her props in the opening sequence. Also our other character Alison is seen wearing her dance costume, this is Similar to Step Up were the female character is also in her dance costume. This shows that we have used the convention codes on mise en scene.

After hearing the feedback that we heard in class ( Located in the comment box underneath the previous opening sequence ) we adapted our opening sequence to improve it.

The opening sequence starts off with and ext. shots of Barking Abbey School (Leisure Centre) it then dissolves to a panning of inside the leisure centre (with extras) , which then pans across the basketball court,where we have a long shot of Ricardo dribbling a basketball .The camera continues to pan through the leisure centre (with extras) into the dance studio where we have a long shot of Alison gathering her dance things together after a session alone, she will pick up a CD and on that CD we will have a credit eg.editor. There is no dialogue just a sound track playing. We cutaway to Ricardo putting his duffel bag over his shoulder this will be a medium long shot and on his duffel bag a credit will appear e.g directors name. The camera will follow Ricardo and as he opens the sports hall door we have a cutaway shot of Alison opening the door to the dance studio and walking out into the hall way going over her dance steps. We then cut back to Ricardo as he is walking up the stairs then through the hallway we have and over the shoulder shot of him seeing Alison. The over the shoulder shot will capture Alison turning around to see Ricardo behind her. We then cutaway to a close up of Alisons face looking embarrassed. We will then have the camera inside the locker so as Alison opens her locker door we see her face, as she puts her things inside her locker it will eventually block the view of the camera. We then cutaway back to the over the shoulder shot of Ricardo and as he opens his locker, the camera will cutaway to a view from inside his locker where we will see Alison walking past with a lovestuck expression on her face. As he puts his belonging in his locker it will eventually block the view of the camera again and as he slams his locker door shut the title of the film will appear.

Location reece - The location will not be changed it will still be based in Barking Abbey Leisure centre.

Soundtrack - The soundtrack still needs to be decided by we have discussed that it will be soft gentle and mellow theme to it.

post production meeting

My group (Esther & Sharon) had a production meeting on SUNDAY THE 15th OF NOVEMBER. It was held at Esther's house at 12:15. Our first objective was to watch more teenage romance based films to inspire us with ideas, we watched the opening sequence of 'Love dont cost a thing', 'High school musical 1, 2 and 3' and films such as 'Honey' and also 'Never been kissed'. After watching all these films we came to the conclusion that basing our opening sequence on the opening of High School Musical 2 will be a good idea. We liked the way the establishing shots were precise and set the scene clearly and we felt we could incorporate this into our opening sequence we also like the way they started the scenes in the classroom with the character bored and waiting for time to go pass and that we could base our story around this opening.
In addition we discussed and brainstormed different ideas such as location rice and music opening sequence. We also came up with the idea of doing additions for parts in our sequence.All in all it was a very successful meeting we discussed many issues and managed to storyboard our opening sequence and create a written version of it.

Cannon x set up

Firstly take out the tripod and then stand it up onto its legs. Then put the base of the legs flat on the surface, after you un screw the three buttons and then unscrew the three clips. The three buttons mean that you can increase the height slightly and the three clips allow you to spread out the legs of the tripod. You the un screw another pair and this will allow you to raise the height again, this time you put the tripod to shoulder width.
You then move onto the camera, place the battery into the back of the camera. Then you switch on the camera by turning the switch button. Once the camera is turned on this will allow you to open the view finder from the side once you have done this then you remove the lens from the front of the camera. Then place the leaver at the bottom of the camera and then slide the camera onto the tripod making sure that the camera is facing the direction away from you. Then you press a button on the right hand side of the camera which will open up the tape, then you get the tape and put it in down first with the inside of the tape facing the inside of the camera. You then adjust the settings on the camera by turning the wheel to automatic.Then plug the wire into the cable and attach the other side onto the camera. To record you keep your hand on the small button on the back of the camera.

Treatment; The opening sequence starts off with Alison putting on her ballet shoes to cutaway shots of Ricardo putting on his football boots, it then goes to Alison walking through the corridor to the dance studio in the 6th form. It then cuts away to Ricardo walking through the corridor hearing the music and peeking through the window to see Alison dancing.Ricardo is mesmerized by her dance moves and cant help himself so he walks in applauding her.

Alison is shocked as she has a huge crush on Ricardo because Ricardo is captain of the football team that every girl loves, this is he first time he has ever noticed her, he goes on by saying that she is the most beautiful girl he has seen and he loves the way she moves. They continue their conversation and Alison asks him to come to the talent show, Ricardo says yes and plans to ask her out after the show.

Alison is performing with 3 other dancers for the show and they find out Ricardo is planning to ask her out after the show and are envious, but they think that if Alison performs badly he wont ask her out. So they come up with a plan to do a different dance routine to the one they are rehearsing with Alison without Alison knowing.

When it comes to the day of the talent show Ricardo has a front row seat and the girls get ready to perform. They come on stage and get ready to perform the stage goes dark and the spotlights are about to come on luckily for Alison her spotlight is the only on that comes on so the audience dont see the other 3 girls dancing, Once again Ricardo is mesmerized and when the music stops he runs on stage and asks her out.

Treatment
The film starts with an opening sequence of Alison dancing alone in a dance studio at their 6th form, the music is on loud and she thinks no one is around and gives it her all, little does she know that Ricardo is poking his head through the door memorised by her dance moves and cant help himself so he walks in applauding her.

Alison is shocked as she has a huge crush on Ricardo and this is he first time he has ever noticed her, he goes on by saying that she is the most beautiful girl he has seen and he loves the way she moves. They continue to conversate and Alison asks him to come to one of her shows, Ricardo says yes and plans to ask her out after the show.

The girls in school eventually find out about their relationship and are envious, so much so to the point where they start to bully and abuse Alison. Alison blames Ricardo for the pain that she is going thorough and cuts him out of her life without telling him why. One day the bullies take things a step too far and attack Alison to the point where she badly sprains her ankle and is unable to dance. When Ricardo asks Alsion what happened Alison has no chioce but to tell him the truth.Ricardo breaks up with Alison to stop the bullying Alison feels heartbroken as she feels that they should still be together but they cant.

Shortly after this whole ordeal Ricardo starts to date one of the bullies that attacked Alison, when Alison finds out about this she is distrought and ends up writing a suicide note on facebook and shortly after, kills herself.

Mean girls

The opening scene shows key codes and conventions because it introduces the protagonist in the very beginning. It shows the characters background so the audience has a sense of what has been happening up towards this point. It also has a clear setting which is in the high school. The narrative is that the new girl Katie moves to America and has a crush for her friends ex and in the end she does not get him. In the opening scene the antagonist is not introduced but the story is quite clear.
To a certain point the sequence does meet expectations for a teenage romance film, because the narrative is clear and typical it has the character who moves to a new high school and is not popular and then develops a crush. Also the setting which is in the high school is an appropriate environment for this genre because a lot of relationship or romance often happens in an eduction environment such as high school where a lot of people are based from different backgrounds and places and some people may start to develop friendships which leads to relationships in high school.
There was not many clues which were given to the audience through the opening scene, however the scene showed that the protagonist didn't really have much friends and know much about high school. However she was able to make new friends which showed that she could of made a relationship, also her friends seemed to be very beneficial they explained a lot of things to the main character most of them were about other antagonists.
The main character follows typical features of a character from this genre which is teenage romance. Katie at the beginning was very lonely in the beginning and unpopular she was also keen on making new friends. We had been shown her background before and it was in Africa so this meant that she was not use to life in America and the other students rejected her or felt as though she was unusual. Katie also took time to settle in, this to me felt like a character from a teenage romance film.
Other characters and people show how the high school environment is like. Some characters decide to guide the Katie and help get use to the school, other characters are behaving like teenagers and socializing with each other. There antagonist characters do not really represent the genre because there is no clues suggesting romance between certain characters. Instead the characters reflect the reality of school life without romance.
Music is varied to different scenes, the music doesn't really reflect the genre because it is not soft slow music. It reflects the teenagers in the film, however it doesn't reflect the romance part of the film.
The titles at the beginning were used with feminine colors such as pink and yellow, this may have been a clue of the genre, these colors represent the genre because the target audience for romance are females and the colors being used are normally associated with females.

Target audience:

The target audience for a romantic fil is mainly women from the age of 15 and upwards. This because women like the femanin side of romantic films, most women can relate to most of the films which are shown and they can be reflected to the characters being portrayed.

codes and conventions:

The narrative of a romance film usually starts with two main protagonists which often do not know each other, during the course of the film these main characters meet and this is often the first sign of romance ina a romantisc film. Usually in the story the two protagonists often have many obstacles they have to face such as bad antagonists, towards the end the protagonists end up being with eachother but on some occasions they do not and that is either stopped by death, or another character being involved in the romance.

The characters of a romance film should usually follow the code of being alone in the start of a film and then progressing through the film and developing a relationship with a another individual.

In a romance film there is a wide variety of settings, but in opening scenes it should start in a sparse environment and move to a more complex and dense environment on vice versa.

Certain actors are used in the genre romance this is because directors preffer actors that will reflect more to the audience, the directors will also look for actors that have been in previous romance films because the audience will have a better understanding of the film and the audience will interact and be engaged more because they have seen the actors do this before and are more use to them

Titanic

The opening scene of this film as establishes the narrative well by giving clues to what the story is about, the setting at the beginning may confuse the audience because it is set under sea. However the rest of the film, the main setting is on a boat but the beginning was not an ideal place to start a romance film. The characters which were introduced in the beginning were not the main characters so the audience are wondering who these characters are and if they play a significant role in the film. These characters which were shown seemed to be divers looking for some sort of treasure such as diamonds. There were undersea camera shots and lots of close up shots being used.

The sequence did not meet my expectations of a typical opening of a romance film, this because the main characters had not been introduced yet however they decided to introduce antagonists and never really showed the protagonists. Also the setting in the beginning was at the bottom of the sea and this was the start of the film this did not seem to me as an ideal place to open a romantic film. However before this point there was a prologue which showed people boarding the titanic boat and waving to their loved ones goodbye this gave some hint of romance in the film and gave the film a potential and expectation to be a romantic film.
At the beginning of the film it showed people leaving the country and setting off on a large ship. Then once the story starts in the modern period there is another ship which is shown underneath the sea, this ship appears very rusty and old. This could be seen as an indication that these were the same ship and that something terrible must have happened to make the ship sink. The antagonist characters also explained that the boat had sunk a couple of years ago which gives the same clue.
The characters did not follow the typical features of the genre because the characters attitudes were of money, fame and this did not represent romance.
The people and places did not really represent an opening of a romantic film. There was mainly all males at the beginning and this did not suggest a romantic film also nor did the setting. This shows that the film subverts genre conventions because the setting and characters did not make it seem as though the film would be about romance and the main characters were not introduced.
The music which is used at the beginning is used to show the opening of the film, the music is very slow paced and feels humble and calm. It reflects the genre very much because it is soft slow music which catches the audience straight away. It also brings sad emotions to the audience and that is reflected by the genre of romance which may contain scenes of emotions.
Titles appeared in the film slowly and the main title "Titanic" slowly as well, it matched the same speed as the music so there was a good sound bridge which linked the two elements together. The title by itself didn't give away the genre however played with the music it did

Charlotte is an 18 year old girl who loves partying and loves spending time going out to clubs and enjoying herself she is known for the blue rings, shoes and diamond that she wears on her nights out. One day she gets a phone call from her boyfriend telling her that there is a party going on at his house and that there will be lots of people coming and she should also come. On the way to the party Charlotte bumps into a stranger who kindly talks to her and then asks for her number. Charlotte denies him her number but decides to tell this kind boy that she is heading to her boyfriends party when he asks him. The stranger then tells Charlotte that he is a friend of the boyfriend so then charlotte walks with him to the party. In the party Charlotte and the stranger split up, however the stranger keeps his eyes on charlotte closely. He then becomes extremely jealous when he sees her kissing and dancing with her boyfriend this makes him drink plenty of alcohol to his anger. The boyfriend then goes into the toilet and the stranger asks charlotte again for her number but she is not interested, the stranger then follows into the toilet and sneaks behind him as he is washing his hands and pulls out a knife, but then he withdraws it as someone else comes in. He then confronts the boyfriend and they have an argument in the toilet. The party finishes and the boyfriend decides to take her home. Around the corner the stranger is waiting he then leaps out strikes the boyfriend and before he could stab him the police hear Charlotte’s cries and appear from around the corner and arrest the stranger for possession and assault.

What makes a opening of a film good.

The film should have good acting, because if it doesn't have good acting then it will seem unprofessional and the audience will not consider it serious and will not engage in the story and possibly loose interest.

An opening of a film must also be interesting so that it engages the audiences attention so that they are drawn into it. At the end of the scene it should leave the audience wanting to see the rest of the film, however it should not give the whole story away.

Another quality which an opening film must have is a good soundtrack, the soundtrack should be able to link well with the theme, for example if its a horror theme it should have a nervous tension of music been played in the background and if its a comedy it should have a light element of music, probably childish music to relate with the music.

There should also be a good set where the opening scene is taking place, because if the setting was poor then the scene will not add up or make sense, this could confuse the audience. Also if the set doesn't match up to scene then it will seem unprofessional and have a low production value because the scene has not prevented itself properly.

A good opening scene may benefit from advance technology such as computer editing to make the scene seem professional as possible. However a scene with no advance technology can still make an opening film look professional as long as it follows these qualities.

Halloween 2 opening film

First of all the theme of this film is horror, the opening scene manged to build and increase the tension, because the audience didn't know who the mystery man was, so the film didn't give much away because the scene allowed the audience to think about what the girl was talking about.
Also this was set at night time and in also in a dark room, some of the characters faces were concealed by the dark which still allowed the audience to engage, the low lighting and dark scene also represents the theme and build tension.
There was no soundtrack which I think benefited the movie because there were certain aspects which made the scene more intense so that a soundtrack was not needed. There was quite a lot of dialouge which was explaining the girls dream, I think this was good so that the audience has a little bit of understanding of what was going on.

This means that the person screening the film could show it to family and friends, whatever the outcome he or she can keep the profit which had been made or they can decide to put it towards their own climate campaign if they have one.

Our task was to create a film in the space of 1 lesson. The objective of the film was to show a person being watched by another person by using ten shots. The first thing we did in our groups of three was to create a story board, our group storyboard included cutaways and close ups to make the filming more effective, however it was difficult to produce because we had to fit the film in just ten shots using as many different camera positions as possible. This took as longer than expected, my group spent far too much time on planning the storyboard and it ran into the rest of our time. Rebecca in my group then set up the tripod and camera and we ready to film.
The location which we had chosen was inside the media classroom and outside the classroom. This was a very serious problem because the other groups had also chosen the exact locations to film as us, so since we set up our tripod and camera late they filmed before us. So what my group did was that we went to the places where could take our other shots and when there was an availability we would then take the remaining shots. There was a lot of background noise, because of the location we were which was mainly outside we had other students talking and we also had the other groups talking so this was a real problem which we faced. The other group also kept on getting our way so we had to constantly tell them to wait or wait for them to finish filming. This problem was a major a factor why we had wasted a lot of filming time. All these problems could have been avoided if we had chosen a different location, however because the task was set to us in the media room my group and myself assumed that we couldn’t spread ourselves further away. Next I will try a better location for the scene; this would be a place where there are small amount of people and less noise.
The task was not as successful as it could have been, if we had thought more about the location we would have finished the task easily. But unfortunately the task was left incomplete due to all the interruptions we had and all the delay. After the task was finished I learned that we should have taken in consideration of where the other groups will be filming. Also we also should of made are storyboard quicker because this wasted

I was working with my partner Yasmine and we were assisted by Hale and Rebbecca who were the actors that were in our film. We were able to mange the film as Yasmine was a director and I was assistant director and also I was responsible for the continuity sheets. First of all we planned a script of what was suppose to happen in our scene we went into detail of the character dialogs, we then chose a location which was suitable and appropriate for our story and that was an art room, we then asked permission to view the room we would be shooting in to have an understanding of the surroundings such as desks and chairs and were they would be positioned later on when we had altered the room into our satisfaction. We decided to meet up every free lesson that we had to try and get some of the shooting done however due the difference in our timetable this didn’t work, so eventually the shooting schedule was for after school were it would not be a problem for me and my group. I believe that I was able to come and meet up with Yasmine and the other group on time, this was very important so that we had the maximum amount of time to the filming, however my weakness was a lack of communication to my partner as I was not confident in contacting her. If there was a next time I would definitely keep in contact with my partner and the other group to make sure I knew where they were I would also try and fit in extra periods such as break to discuss any issues or times which we could of done the script or filming.

We were able to plan our sequence because we had received a shooting schedule which will tell us the day when we would be shooting, so then we gave the other group are script and told them what they had to do. However we didn’t have enough time to rehearse and if we had more time we could of told the other group which had Rebeca and Hale to improve their acting so that it would make it interesting for the audience. I was given a continuity sheet I had to basically write what was going to be filmed; I would have had to write what was going to happen in the camera shots this meant describing what type of shot was being used as well.
The most important equipment and technology and equipment which we used were the tripod which we placed the camera on which was the second technology and the clapper board. First of all we had to set up the tripod, I was unable to set up a tripod independently because it was my second time doing it, so I needed help from Yasmine, I was told that I had to unlock all four parts of the leg before it could stand up to shoulder height. Then I placed the camera on top of the tripod this was easier for me than setting up the tripod, I was able to do this on my own, before placing the camera on the tripod I found out that a grey camera will not work on a black tripod and vice versa. When setting up the equipments I found out that the hairy harry had to be placed onto the boom to block out interfering sounds such as wind, rain and other common factors. The hairy harry was also needed to stop dust from going on the microphone of the boom. When the filming was taking place I had to write onto the clapper board
When planning the film me and Yasmine had to consider the location of the film where most of the shooting would take place, we also had to make sure that it would be an appropriate place to the actual filming, because if the film was based in a drama classroom when the storyboard showed something different like an art room it would not make sense. Secondly another thing which we had to take into account was how many camera shots we would plan for the film, we didn’t want to do too may shots because we feared that it could possibly limit the amount of time we would have to actually shoot the film and because we hadn’t had much experiences in the past with cameras I knew that in order to achieve a good film we would need plenty of time for the shooting and to get use to the equipments. When shooting the film we had to take many things into account, one of the things was to make sure that people didn’t get into the view of our shots. So basically before almost every camera shot I would check around all the locations we were to make sure that there were small amounts of people around or no one around, sometimes I had to divert other students another way or politely ask them to wait after we had finished the shots we needed to do. Another similar problem was the sound that other people could be making when we were shooting, so before the shooting we had to choose certain quiet places which still reflected the location which we needed to shoot from. I also had to remain relatively quiet when shooting was in process because I had to show the clapper bard to the camera and then I had to move out the directions were the camera would be in use, so I had to do this stealthy which I found quite difficult. Another factor which we had to take in account was the 180 degree rule; we had to make sure that the positions that we placed our cameras were basically all on one side so we had to remember the positions which we had already used such and the different shots such as shot reverse.
The sequences which were created went very well, there was a great sense of continuity and all of the scenes were able to match up and flow with the storyboard and story of the film. The locations were able to assist in the success of the film because they were the ideal places which we needed to have to make the film look professional and run smoothly and fit in with the story. If there was a next time I would like to use more different camera shots and from different angles, I would also like to add in more pan movements into the film to show that our knowledge of different camera shots and movements are on a large scale.
From completing the task I had learned that my weakness was time judgment, we spent far too much time and initially had to stop our production in order for the other group to have their turn. I had also learned from this experience that a 5 minute film could take more than an hour to produce. Another weakness was the team spirit, there was not much enthusiasm and much commitment to the task, there were hardly efforts from myself and other members from the group to contact each other to arrange times beyond school times. If I could do any thing different next time I would make sure I set the next set up in the next location while Yasmine was shooting, this would have made the production mush more faster and easier therefore giving us more time to complete the production and putting less pressure on our selves. However we were able set up the camera and tripod and we had no difficulty using the camera when filming so this made filming a simple task. Myself and my partner decided to go for a short film which meant that we didn’t really take more than 3 takes of the same shot. I learned from this task that the short film would have more of an effect on the audience and will keep them more interested in the story and bore them.

Rebecca is shown painting alone in a art classroom.
Halle is walking through the art block, when she notices Rebecca painting alone through a peep hole of one of the art rooms’ doors. She presses her face up to the glass and her eyes brighten up as a mischievous thought comes to her mind. Halle then, carefully opens the door, and sneaks over to Rebecca, who hasn’t noticed her. When she reaches Rebecca, Halle scares Rebecca, who in a fit of fright throws her paintbrush up and it hits her in the face then falls to the floor.
Rebecca:

(Screams furiously)

Halle

(Laughing in hysterics)

Halle: Oh my god...CLASSIC!

Halle continues to laugh as she reaches down to pick up the dropped paintbrush.

Rebecca: What is wrong with you? Why would you do that!
Realising Rebecca is actually upset, Halle subsides her laughter. But, she is unable to contain her giggles.
